BIOGRAPHY OF A NOBLE MAN, MR WILSON ONOGHOJOBA EMRETANE aka PA WILLIE

Mr. Wilson Onoghojoba Emretane was born on the 12th of April 1943 to Pa Emretane and Ma Ishehe Erueomose (fondly called Baaba and Nene) in Effurun, Delta State. He was the last child and baby of the house.  He lost his father (Baaba) at the tender age of 6. His paternal Uncle Ejiromure Erueomose took up his care. It was Uncle Ejiromure (aka Papo) that insisted daddy commence formal education.

He  started attending  African Church Primary School in 1949/1950.He had his own customized uniform for his first couple of weeks in school- a wrapper knotted at the neck and no shoes. This was because the family could not afford them. He moved to Our Mother of the Redeemer Catholic School because the facilities were better. A move that was difficult as the headmaster of African Church Primary School did not want to lose his best pupil.  Shortly after Baaba died, Daddy lost his new Father figure, his Uncle Papo. The death was a big blow to the family. He stayed with several siblings and his maternal family.

Shortly after, a new chapter began in his life. Odeh Emretane (Daddy's elder brother) asked that daddy move to Lagos. Pa Odeh (of blessed memory) arranged for him to attend Secondary Modern School in Itire Surulere in 1958. He excelled there and moved on to prepare for his British Cambridge O' and A' Levels which he passed in flying colours.

He joined British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) in 1969. He started in the Reservations Department from where he moved to travel shops (Ticketing). He became a full sales Representative and was posted to Warri. He was moved back to Lagos and was for 11 years, British Airways (BA) Off-line as Sales Rep. When BOAC became British Caledonian Airways, he was posted to Port Harcourt as District Manager. In 1988, he was moved back to Lagos Telephone Sales and Youth Control Manager. His job got expanded and rose up the ranks as Retail and Distribution Manager, West Africa.

BOAC and British Airways afforded him the opportunity to take part in several courses in management, marketing, etc in Nigeria and abroad. He had a full rewarding career in aviation and contributed positively to the industry until his retirement in 2009 after 40 years.

He met his lovely and gorgeous wife on the job and married 39 years ago. He was blessed with 6 amazing children -Nere, Omo, Ono, Rime, Bibo and Renate. The family has expanded to include superb in-laws and beautiful grandchildren.

Pa Willie as he was fondly called (first in BA, then by all) was a strong lover of family. He was a selfless man and invested in people more than any other earthly possession. He was a strong football fan and supported Chelsea and Stationary Stores recruiting local players for the latter just for the love of football and people. Daddy was a great lover of music, he had a collection of albums of various artists like Tina Turner, The Temptations, Craig David, Spice Girls, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, The Jackson Five, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Bob Marley, Bee Gees, Rod Stewart and much more. His taste was impeccable and transcended genre and time. Pa Willie was a true detribalized Nigerian. His love for this great nation was second to none.

Pa Willie was baptised into the Catholic Faith in Childhood and developed a close relationship with Jesus more so near the end of his race on earth. He boldly declared that he was a sinner and saved only by grace.

Pa Willie will surely be missed.

RIP Daddy.

An Evaluation of the Importance of SPF (sun protection factor)

In my last post I mentioned how dark skin is great because it can hide a sunburn.

What is a sunburn?

Sunburn is a form of radiation burn that affects living tissue, such as skin, that results from an overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, commonly from the sun.

What can cause a sunburn?

Going out in sunny weather without using protection, yh protection!!!!! Many of us feel because Nigeria is sunny generally means we should live in the sun, hell NO!!! while some are thinking it can only make them darker nothing more, that's not true yep there is more.

You already know the simple explanation behind sunburn. When your skin is exposed to the sun for a period of time, eventually it burns, turning red, burnt look and irritated.

Under the skin, things get a little more complicated. The sun gives off three wavelengths of ultraviolet light:

  • UVA (UVA stands for Ultra Violet A. These rays penetrate deeper through the epidermis into the lower layers of skin known as the dermis. UVA rays are the cause of visible signs of aging such as wrinkles, hyperpigmentation (sun spots) and loss of elasticity).
  • UVB (UVB stands for Ultra Violet B. These rays penetrate the upper layers of the skin known as the epidermis and cause the skin to burn. UVA stands for Ultra Violet A. These rays penetrate deeper through the epidermis into the lower layers of skin known as the dermis).
  • UVC (UVC is the most dangerous type of ultraviolet light but cannot penetrate earth's protective ozone layer. Therefore, it poses no threat to human, animal or plant life on earth. UVA and UVB, on the other hand, do penetrate the ozone layer in attenuated form and reach the surface of the planet).

UVC light doesn't reach the Earth's surface. Skin damage is caused by both UVA and UVB rays.

Sunburn is the most obvious sign that you've been sitting outside for too long. But sun damage isn't always visible. Under the surface, ultraviolet light can alter your DNA, prematurely aging your skin. Over time, DNA damage can contribute to skin cancers, including deadly melanoma.

Another major cause of burn is bleaching creams, creams that contain hydroquinone they don't just gel well with the Nigerian weather.

I have read so much about sunburns and how it takes years to destroy the skin, look at what I came across while reading,

Read on for Dr. Roberts' top five reasons why we should all use SPF products.

What straight-up advice (or words of caution) can you offer people who never wear sunscreen?

You will regret not having worn sunscreen when you look at your skin compared to friends and family who have worn daily sunscreen 20 years from now.

If you've ever wondered what the SPF number on your sunscreen bottle means, it stands for Sun Protection Factor. These SPF ratings start at 2 and can reach as high as 70. They measure a sunscreen's effect against UVB rays and the amount of time you can be in the sun before burning. If, for example, you burn after ten minutes of sun exposure without any cream, an SPF of 15 will allow you to stay in the sun for up to 150 minutes without burning. So, the higher the SPF number, the more sunburn protection the cream provides.

What are the top five reasons you believe everyone should wear sunscreen?

1. The ozone layer is depleting and your body needs shielding from harmful rays.

2. Skin cancer rates are on the rise and sunscreen has been proven to decrease the development of skin cancer.

3. It helps to prevent facial brown spots and skin discolorations.

4. It also helps to reduce the appearance of facial red veins and blotchiness.

5. It slows down the development of wrinkled, premature aging skin.

What about the need for obtaining vitamin D via the sun?

Most people can fulfill their vitamin D requirements of 600 IU or 15mcg per day with normal daily outdoor activities amounting to five to 30 minutes twice per week. Equally, a healthy vitamin D rich diet of fish, milk, dairy, liver, eggs and vitamin D supplementation provides daily requirements. Prolonged sun exposure gives no extra production of necessary vitamin D, and it exposes the skin to the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation which includes development of skin cancers.

Did you find this useful?

Share with friends and family, thanks xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo!!!!!!

The cutest prettiest girls are dark skinned, do you agree??

First of all this has nothing to do with me being black, or when a friend called me 'black dodo' or even when @ night they feel like cracking jokes and be like 'i can't see anything mehn! But your teeth', funny enough I never flipped. Well I decided to do a survey which involved other people as well. Ask any girl (most girls especially the light skinned ones) what their ideal man is? Their first words usually tall dark...........etc with this features it already describes a really fine guy.
In all, most of us (girls) have acknowledged that the finest guys are dark skinned, and you know what it's exactly the same for girls tooo. We are all beautiful in our individual creations, I think it's even more appropriate to do this contest, who is finer for  twins that have different complexions.
Somehow the society has paved way for bleaching, it's either they need light skinned girls only as video vixens or bill board adverts or a modeling job(lets not forget that our top african models are dark skinned). According to an elderly man, employers focused on hiring light skinned (years back). This has however influenced the growth of bleaching in Nigeria. I have to bring GOD into this, he created me black, beautiful, &strong  why would I want to alter it, who am I to even think d alternate would have been better.
In my next life I would still choose black but mehn in another country (germany or somewhere sha lol) black because
When theres blemishes, pimples, burns its hardly so obvious
Contouring fits a dark face better
I can rock almost all the colours and still look glam, the only colour I find had to blend with my skin is brown, dont buy me a brown dress!!!!!! I havent just found that brown shade that would rock'
I dont have to worry about getting darker or trying out so many cosmetics, no creams, no mixing of creams. All my natural products work fine for me
Same reason why I will pick a black top instead it goes with everything thats the beauty of being dark.
I have included some pictures of dark girls!!!!!!!!!yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you agree/disagree leave a comment and tell me why?

How to get rid of blemishes

What Are Blemishes ?

Blemishes are skin imperfections like acne-marks, pigmentation marks and dark spots.  Blemishes are usually caused by oil-clogged pores and stress.

1.Prevention:The best way to get rid of blemishes is to prevent the skin blemishes from occurring in the first place. Do not prick acne / pimples.

2. Daily Skin Care: Wash your face daily with a mild cleanser which is good for solving your skin problems like too much of oil, dryness, blackheads. Avoid using harsh scrubs as they worsen acne.

3. Avoid too much of sun exposure: Sun rays irritate acne and it can cause blemishes. To mitigate damage from the sun, apply a good sunscreen with at least SPF 15 on your exposed skin areas whenever you go out in the sun.

4. Aloe Vera: Aloe Vera gel is a time tested remedy for getting rid of skin blemishes on face and other areas. You can add 3-4 vitamin E capsules into Aloe Vera Gel to make this remedy more effective to remove skin blemishes, including facial blemishes.

5. Tomato Juice: Apply tomato juice to skin pigmentation marks, a natural remedy to remove skin blemishes from your face and else where.

6. Almond Oil: Almond oil is another natural home remedy to remove skin blemishes on face and from other body areas.

7. Carrots: Apply mashed carrots paste on skin blemishes or alternatively apply carrot juice to get rid of skin blemishes from your face and else where.

8. Calamine Lotion: Rub gently calamine lotion on your face or wherever the skin blemishes are. Calamine lotion helps in absorbing excess oil from the skin and thus results in to removing the skin blemishes, including facial blemishes. Apply calamine lotion as frequently as needed.

9. Honey, Lemon Juice and Turmeric Powder: Make a paste of a little bit of honey, lemon juice and a bit of turmeric powder. Apply this paste gently over the skin blemishes daily.

If skin blemishes still persist, please consult a dermatologist. Thanks.
